Hans Marsen has been Atwater resident for over 20 years. He left England in 1976, and after working in San Francisco, Pebble Beach, and Grand Canyon, he decided that it was the small town comunity of Atwater that suited him best.

Atwater is only 10 miles from Merced, and as soon as Hans realized that the University of California was going to build its tenth campus in this County he claimed the ucmerced.net domain.

It has long been an ambition to create this website, documenting the construction of this UC campus. Doing it with aerial photographs has presented many challenges but it has been a fantastic learning experience. The difference in the quality of images over the last 2 years is self evident.

Hans operates a chimney service company, which is what makes it possible to cover the costs of this venture. Ashes Away is in it's 25th year of operation.

Another Internet site operated by Hans is atwatercity.com. This site features mainly local social events but there are some other features related to Castle Airport happenings, and views of Yosemite set to music.
